A Fayette County woman was killed in an accident on Cabin Creek Road near Sharon Tuesday morning.
Misty Kay Boles, 31, of Fayetteville, pulled her Mercury Cougar out in front of a coal truck when she turned right from Sharon Hollow onto Cabin Creek Road, said State Police Sgt. Ken McCord. The truck hit the car on the passenger side, he said.
Passenger Joy Baumbush, 32, of Oak Hill, suffered a broken wrist and injured her knee and was taken to CAMC General Hospital.
The driver of truck, Troy Goodwin, 51, of Miami, was not injured.
State Police Cpl. S. Pettry, who investigated the crash, said that Boles might not have seen the truck when she went to turn, then panicked when she saw the 77,000-pound truck coming. The truck was 3,000 pounds under the 80,000 allowed by state law, and no citations were issued, McCord said.
Neither woman was wearing a seatbelt, and passenger and side airbags deployed, which may have saved Baumbush from being injured more seriously, McCord said.
Cabin Creek Road was shut down at 10:37 a.m. and traffic was backed up for miles. The road was re-opened at 12:29 p.m.
