AMANDAVILLE, W.Va. -- Two men have been arrested for stealing a car in Charleston earlier this week.

Michael Mason, 20, of Dunbar, and Robert Thomas, 22, of Pineville, were driving a gold 2002 Chevrolet Malibu erratically in the Gateway Shopping Center in Amandaville around 2 a.m. Friday morning, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Police signaled for the two young men to stop driving and pull over, but they sped away onto Kanawha Terrace heading west. Deputy J.M. Vernon pursued the vehicle and learned that the car had been reported stolen from Charleston on Tuesday.

The suspects fled west on U.S. 60, where additional deputies used spike strips to puncture the tires of the fleeing vehicle and bring it to a halt, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Mason and Thomas were charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and are being held in the South Central Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.
