SISSONVILLE, W.Va. --  A 31-year-old Beckley man was arrested Sunday night after a failed holdup attempt at a Sissonville gas station, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

A clerk at the BP station on Call Road in Sissonville reported an attempted robbery after a man entered the station about 10 p.m., gestured that he had a gun, and demanded money from the cash register. The man fled the store after the clerk refused his demand.

Deputies responding were given a description of the suspect and his vehicle, which Deputy A.R. Crawford spotted traveling south on Interstate 77 near the Sissonville exit.

Crawford pulled over the vehicle and arrested the driver, Scott Allan Tyler, on an attempted robbery charge. Further investigation showed that Tyler was wanted in Raleigh County on a felony charge of escaping from home confinement following a larceny arrest in August.

Tyler was taken to the South Central Regional Jail.
