CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police have arrested a man who they say shot a man in the back in Elkview Tuesday.
James "Jimmy" Sigmond, 38, of Elkview, shot David Sharp, 32, in the lower back at about 1 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Beckett Branch Road in Elkview, said Lt. Bryan Stover of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
Sharp was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Stover said.
Police searched for Sigmond after witnesses said he drove to Sharp's home, pulled out a pistol and started shooting. Witnesses told police there had been ongoing problems between the two, Stover said.
Police searched Kanawha and Roane counties much of the day Tuesday for Sigmond. Police spotted him at about 11:30 p.m. as he got into a vehicle near the Kroger at Crossings Mall in Elkview, Stover said. He was taken into custody without incident and is in South Central Regional Jail. He is charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding.
Police are continuing to investigate, Stover said.
