NITRO, W.Va. -- Fire destroyed a house near Nitro on Sunday.
Nitro Mayor Rusty Casto said flames were reported shooting out of a home on Cochran Lane just outside Nitro city limits at about 6 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived, fire was burning through the roof and three walls.
"The house was so involved by the time they got there that they basically did a controlled burn," Casto said.
No one was hurt in the fire, but the family who rented the house came back while the fire department was still on the scene, Casto said. He said the owner of the house lives in Florida.
