WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Four people, including two children of Hurricane's fire chief, have been arrested for allegedly beating and robbing a man and leaving him on the side of the road.
Christina Mae Stover, 19; Robert Franklin Stover Jr., 23; Roland Leonard Tate II, 23; and Justin Paxson, 20, were arraigned in Putnam County Magistrate Court this week.
Robert and Christina Stover's father is Frank Stover, chief of the Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department.
According to a criminal complaint filed in magistrate court, Christina Stover called Corey Smart, 24, a friend of the group, on Sept. 9 and asked him to bring her brother gas on Cow Creek Road in Hurricane.
When Smart arrived around 1:30 a.m., Tate and Paxson allegedly attacked him from behind, according to the criminal complaint.
The pair then went through his wallet and removed $256, money from the paycheck Smart had cashed earlier that day, the complaint states.
Tate and Paxson then allegedly got in Robbie Stover's car, with Stover in it, and drove away. Christina Stover was hiding in the trunk of the car, according to the complaint. After they drove away, the group allegedly returned and took the keys to Smart's van before leaving again.
Smart suffered two fractures to his skull. He was able to crawl to a nearby house and call 911, a detective with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department said.
Tate, Paxson and the two Stovers have been charged with malicious wounding, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit malicious wounding.
All four were being held Thursday at Western Regional Jail on $75,000 bail each.
