CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police are searching for a father and son who they say followed a woman from North Carolina to a home in Hurricane on Saturday and assaulted her friend with a stun gun and a baseball bat.
An arrest warrant was issued for Denver Allen Higgins, 41, and Corey Allen Higgins, 19, both of Midland, N.C., after they broke into a Hurricane home, shocked William Dennis with a stun gun and beat him in the head and arms with a baseball bat, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.
The woman they followed, Stephanie Higgins, is Denver Higgins' wife and Corey Higgins' mother, the complaint states.
A caller told Hurricane police at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday that two men in a "jacked-up" Chevrolet truck were driving through the yard of 302 Wallace St.
Denver Higgins then broke down the front door of the home while his son broke down the back door, according to the complaint. They entered the house and began to hit Dennis with a baseball bat and shock him with a stun gun.
Stephanie Higgins tried to pull her son off Dennis, but her son, according to the complaint, turned around and shocked her in the neck with the stun gun. Denver and Corey Higgins also slashed all four tires of Stephanie Higgins' car, the complaint states.
Corporal L.M. Angell of the Hurricane Police Department said the men fled before he arrived. Stephanie Higgins told police she is separated from her husband and filing for divorce, and that her husband had assaulted her before at their home in North Carolina, according to the complaint.
Denver and Corey Higgins are each charged with breaking and entering a home with the intent to commit a crime, and felony assault.
