Advertiser

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A Walmart manager was charged Tuesday after he allegedly embezzled $1,500 from the Hurricane store.

Jermey Bowles, 20, of Nitro, admitted to pocketing the money over the span of a month, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.

A warrant was issued for Bowles' arrest on a felony embezzlement charge on Tuesday.

Mike Persinger, a loss-prevention expert at the store, noticed that the registers came up short whenever Bowles counted the money as part of his nightly duties, according to the complaint.

Persinger reviewed the surveillance tapes and saw that Bowles would count out the money, cup some of it in his hands and slip it into his pocket, the complaint states.

Persinger confronted Bowles, who allegedly admitted to the theft. He told Hurricane police that he stole about $1,000 from May 27 to June 30, the complaint states, although the amount was later found to be closer to $1,500.
