WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A 35-year-old woman admitted Friday in Putnam County Circuit Court to having sex with a teenage boy.

Summer Lynn Burford, formerly of Winfield, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree sexual assault, a felony, and one count of sexual abuse, a misdemeanor. She had been indicted on six counts of each, but prosecutors dropped the other charges in return for her guilty plea.

Last year, State Police arrested Burford and said she had sexually assaulted her neighbor, a boy who was 13 or 14 years of age. The sexual assaults apparently occurred from September until November 2011, according to police.

Burford, who has since moved to Boone County, will be sentenced on Jan. 31 by Putnam Circuit Judge Phillip Stowers. She faces one to five years in prison on the felony charge, and up to 90 days and 10 to 50 years of supervised release for the misdemeanor charge.
