WINFIELD -- A Buffalo man accused of sexually abusing his daughter from the time she was 6 until she was 10 was given the maximum prison sentence Thursday in Putnam County Circuit Court.

Donnie Dwayne Bailes, 44, entered a Kennedy plea to first-degree sexual abuse in August. He had faced charges of incest, first-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent or guardian or person in trust. In a Kennedy plea, a defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him.

Putnam Circuit Judge Robert Leslie on Thursday sentenced Bailes to spend the next 5 to 25 years in prison, plus 50 years of supervised release and pay a $5,000 fine, said assistant prosecutor Steve Connolly.

Last year, Bailes' daughter told investigators her father had molested her and forced her to have sex several times while they were in his home, according to a criminal complaint.

The girl visited Bailes every other week. In 2007, when she was 6, he began assaulting her, the complaint states.

Bailes assaulted the girl almost every time she visited his home, the girl had told investigators.
