Lecture to help farmers learn to extend growing season
Advertiser

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Lewis Jett, a horticulture specialist at West Virginia University, will discuss ways to extend the vegetable and fruit-growing season from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Putnam County Courthouse.

Season extension infrastructure can allow producers to plant and harvest four to five weeks earlier or later than the average West Virginia growing season, according to a news release from the WVU Extension Office.

Those interested in high tunnels, low covers, and farmers who are market vendors or wish to sell produce to school cafeterias will benefit most from the discussion, the release states.

RSVP by calling the WVU Extension Office in Putnam County at 304-586-0217 or Rich Sherman at 304-743-7151.
