WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A St. Albans woman was arrested Monday, accused of smoking marijuana while driving with her 5-year-old son in the car, according to a Putnam County sheriff's deputy.

Abigail N. Wade, 33, was charged with child neglect creating risk of injury, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.

Sheriff's Cpl. David L. Bailey wrote that he saw Wade swerving while driving west on Interstate 64 near Teays Valley. When Bailey passed the car, he saw Wade smoking a marijuana "blunt," he wrote.

After pulling Wade over and approaching her car, according to the complaint, Bailey smelled marijuana. Bailey wrote that Wade initially told him she was smoking a cigar and had thrown it out, but eventually showed him what he said was the rolled marijuana. He also found another marijuana cigarette in the car, he wrote.

Wade was given several field sobriety tests, which she failed, Bailey wrote. Her 5-year-old son was two feet away from Wade while she was smoking, according to Bailey.

Wade was released after posting $10,000 bail Tuesday.
