CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A national business magazine named a town in Putnam County one of America's best towns to raise kids.

Hurricane is the best place in West Virginia to raise children, according to information gathered by BusinessWeek and Bloomberg Rankings and released Tuesday.

Information about public schools, safety, income and a county's unemployment rate from towns with populations between 5,000 and 50,000 were used to make the list.

"The climate on Main Street, full of small shops and a gazebo, is usually quite peaceful. The town operates a water park for kids and has won prizes from the Environmental Protection Agency for the quality of its drinking water," the magazine states.
