HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Bark For Life of Putnam County, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hurricane Valley Park Dog Park and Trails.
The day begins with registration from 9 to 10 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. A survivor/caregiver lap with dogs is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Featured will be doggie contests -- Face Only A Mother Could Love, Best Trick, Look-A-Like, Best Costume -- prizes, raffles, music, food and more.
New Hope Animal Rescue will be on site to "rent" dogs for those who do not have one or for those who are looking for a companion for the one they have now. They also have two dogs that are cancer survivors.
Dr. Clara Mason will have her mobile vet clinic on site to provide discounted vaccines. She will provide X-ray and ultrasound services available that day, as well.
A couple of Relay For Life teams will sell items to help get to their goal for the American Cancer Society fundraiser. A table will be there for anyone that wants to sign up for this year's Putnam Relay For Life.
The dog that raises the most money for the Bark event Saturday will be the Putnam County Bark For Life "spokesdog" for 2014 and will have its picture on all media for 2014, including the website. For more information, call Tambra, at 716-445-5715, or Shawn, at 304-415-8451.
