WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A Putnam County woman has been charged with failing to get the proper treatment for her 3-year-old daughter, a cystic fibrosis patient who died last month.

Tracy Wright, 28, of Hurricane, was charged Thursday with child neglect resulting in death, WSAZ-TV reported.

A criminal complaint in Putnam County Magistrate Court alleges Wright refused to get help for the girl, who died on Dec. 29.

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A Putnam County man who said he shot and killed a woman and tried to kill her fiance in August will spend up to 65 years in jail.

In a hearing Thursday, Putnam Circuit Judge Philip Stowers sentenced Jessie J. Cossin, 21, for the February 2009 slaying.

Cossin pleaded guilty last month to shooting Angela Dawn Casto and Nick Hanshaw at their home in Red House. The three were good friends, according to previous reports, but Hanshaw had asked Casto to spend less time with Cossin.

"I ended up shooting one of my best friends," Cossin said at his plea hearing last month.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police have arrested a South Charleston man in connection with the stabbing of two men Saturday in Putnam County, said Putnam Sheriff Mark Smith.

George Franklin Jeffrey, 21, was charged Tuesday with two counts of malicious wounding for allegedly stabbing Jeremy Stephen Pullen and Robert Eric Peters, both 22, of Poca, about 11 p.m. Saturday near the Rock Branch Exxon station, he said.

Jeffrey got into an argument with Pullen and Peters, and the incident escalated from there, Smith said.

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A Hurricane city police officer has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident after he crashed into another vehicle on Interstate 64 earlier this month.

Chad E. Runyan, 37, was charged today in Putnam County Magistrate Court with the misdemeanor offense of leaving the scene of an accident with injury and failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

Runyan lost control of his car on March 8 and hit a Toyota Camry belonging to Jedawn Edgerton on Interstate 64, causing the other vehicle to hit the concrete barrier and roll over near the Teays Valley exit, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court.

ELEANOR, W.Va -- One person is dead after a two-car crash on W.Va. 62 in Putnam County, according to Putnam County dispatchers.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. today near the Rite-Aid in Eleanor. Emergency crews shut the road down for about 45 minutes, the dispatcher said.

No other injuries were reported in the accident.
