WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A Hurricane city police officer has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident after he crashed into another vehicle on Interstate 64 earlier this month.
Chad E. Runyan, 37, was charged today in Putnam County Magistrate Court with the misdemeanor offense of leaving the scene of an accident with injury and failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
Runyan lost control of his car on March 8 and hit a Toyota Camry belonging to Jedawn Edgerton on Interstate 64, causing the other vehicle to hit the concrete barrier and roll over near the Teays Valley exit, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court.
Runyan continued driving and pulled over near the Scott Depot exit, according to the complaint.
Runyan was off duty at the time of the accident, Putnam County Chief Deputy Stan Booth said. Edgerton was transported to an area hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening, Booth said.
Runyan is scheduled to appear before in magistrate court early next month.
