PRESS RELEASE
Traffic stop yields foot pursuit with wanted felon
On Saturday, December 20, 2008 at approximately 0427 hours, Trooper N. K. Campbell initiated a traffic stop on a green Dodge Intrepid bearing VA registration XTF-7588 for speeding on Interstate 81 in the northbound lane just south of Exit 20 within Berkeley County. Trooper Campbell was provided false information of the driver's identity and learned that her name was actually Marquita Michelle Robinson. She was subsequently arrested for False Information to DPS and placed her in the backseat of his cruiser. The front passenger of the vehicle identified himself as Charles Bishop, but after further conversation he advised that he provided Trooper Campbell a false name, but did not provide his real name.
At approximately 0514 hours, Trooper Campbell conducted a pat down of the passenger for weapons and felt a pistol in his front waist band, the passenger immediately fled on foot in an easterly direction from the interstate. Trooper Campbell pursued the suspect on foot. The suspect then crossed the interstate fleeing on foot west of the interstate onto TJ Jackson Drive in an area known as Spring Mills Commons. Trooper Campbell halted the foot pursuit and returned to his cruiser for safety reasons due to Marquita Robinson being in custody in his cruiser.
Sergeant K. W. Martin, Trooper P. S. Kennedy and Berkeley County Deputies responded to provide assistance and began searching the area. Maryland State Police Trooper 3 helicopter was requested to assist and they conducted an aerial search. Trooper Campbell was able to obtain further suspect information from Marquita Robinson and identified the suspect as Darryll Cash. A check of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) revealed Darryll Cash was wanted for outstanding warrants in Washington County, MD and New York for drug charges and weapon violations. NCIC showed Darryll Cash as dangerous and recommended to proceed with caution. An extensive search was conducted but Darryll Cash was unable to be located. Trooper Campbell was able to obtain a cellular phone number from Marquita Robinson for Darryll Cash through Sprint. West Virginia State Police Romney Communications was able to locate an address for Darryll Cash.
At approximately 0700 hours Sergeant Martin contacted the Hagerstown Police Department and provided them with this address. Charges are pending for Darryll Cash by Trooper Campbell for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Fleeing on Foot, Obstructing an Officer and for False Information to DPS.
