An 18-year-old Chesapeake man was in jail Wednesday on charges he sexually abused a 9-year-old girl.
According to a criminal complaint on file in Kanawha Magistrate Court, Jeremy Don Jarrett, 18, of 1200 Venable Ave., Chesapeake, admitted to having sexual contact with a 9-year-old girl on Jan. 2 and 5 in the girl's Chesapeake home.
Jack W. Ice of the Chesapeake Police Department said the girl told her mother about the alleged abuse, and that Jarrett admitted to the contact when confronted by the mother. Ice said he picked Jarrett up for questioning after receiving a call from Jarrett's stepmother and the victim's mother, who feared he might hurt himself.
Jarrett is charged with three counts of sexual assault and six counts of sexual abuse. He faces up to 25 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for each sexual assault charge and up to five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for each abuse charge.
Jarrett was in the South Central Regional Jail Wednesday morning in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
