Fayette authorities investigate dog shooting

SCARBRO, W.Va. -- Fayette County authorities are looking for information about a dog that was shot near Plum Orchard Lake on Monday.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said deputies belive the Maremma sheepdog was shot inside a fenced-in yard sometime after midnight Monday. The dog appeared to have been shot with a large caliber weapon.

"I want to stress that this dog was inside of a fenced-in yard when it was shot and killed," Kessler said. "Anyone who would do something like this is cruel, cold-hearted and a coward to boot."

Anyone who knows anything about the shooting is asked to call 304-574-4216. Tips may also be left on the sheriff's department Web site, www.fayettesheriffwv.net.
