LUBECK, W.Va. -- Wood County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Sunday who was reportedly high on bath salts.
Sheriff Jeff Sandy said deputies, state Division of Natural Resources officers and State Police troopers went to the home of Jody Wilson, 32, of Dyes Drive in Lubeck at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday to answer a call about a man who was armed and high on bath salts.
Sandy said officers tried to talk Wilson into coming out of the house without weapons, to no avail. The standoff lasted into the early morning hours on Sunday.
The sheriff said Wilson eventually came out of the house and opened fire on deputies, who then returned fire, killing Wilson.
Three deputies involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave while State Police investigate the incident. Sandy said it is standard procedure to place officers on leave following a shooting incident. He said the deputies are in contact with the sheriff department's counselor.
