CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The son of a Supreme Court candidate was arrested Saturday and is facing felony drug charges.
Thomas Elliot Rogers, 19, was arrested Saturday and is facing four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Sgt. Greg Thorngate, with the Wheeling Police Department, said groundskeepers at Independence Hall in Wheeling had noticed "an unusually high number of drug paraphernalia in the area." During a routine patrol, officers noticed Rogers and he was arrested near Independence Hall.
Supreme Court candidate H. John Rogers said Saturday after learning that his son was arrested that, "His mother and I welcome this development. Incarceration might save his life."
Rogers lamented that his son is a heroin addict. Rogers said his son was once enrolled in "a top-flight treatment center," and they believed their son was "clean for about two years after that."
Thomas Elliot Rogers is being held in the Northern Regional Jail.
