RAND, W.Va. -- Kanawha County sheriff's deputies arrested a teenage male in the alleged armed robbery of a convenience store in Rand early Monday morning.

Deputies caught up with the teen Monday night and arrested him. He is being held in Tiger Morton Juvenile Detention Center in Dunbar, said Kanawha Sheriff Lt. Bryan Robbins. Police do not release the names of underage suspects.

Robbins said a clerk at the 7-Eleven in Rand told deputies the teen had been loitering in the parking lot for several hours late Sunday and early Monday.

"At night they keep their doors locked and conduct business through a window," Robbins said Monday.

He said the teen came up to the window and rang the buzzer at about 1:10 a.m. When the clerk came to the window, the teen pulled a gun and demanded money and cigarettes, Robbins said.

Robbins said the clerk gave the teen four envelopes containing $566 and several cartons of cigarettes before he fled on foot.
