BOOMER, W.Va. -- A man struck by a train Friday suffered serious "injuries to his lower extremities," according to Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler.

Kessler said 35-year-old Christopher Manley of Boomer was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center via Health-Net, and Manley's condition is "stable."

Emergency responders got a call about a man being struck by the train at 9 p.m. July 27.

Kessler said he did not know why Manley was on the track at the time the Norfolk-Southern Railroad Company train passed through Fayette County in the Boomer area.

Kessler said Deputy W.K. Willis is still investigating the accident.
