Convenience store in Fayette County robbed

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man robbed a convenience store clerk at knifepoint near Fayetteville and got away with cash Saturday night, according to police.

The incident happened just after 10 p.m. at Ball's Grocery, a convenience store on W.Va. 16 near Fayetteville, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

A store clerk told police he had just closed the store and was counting money when the suspect came into the store, displayed a knife and ordered the clerk to give him money.

The suspect then reportedly fled toward Fayetteville on foot, police say.

The man took approximately $1,500, primarily in $100, $50 and $20 bills, according to police.

The suspect is described as a while male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 145 ponds. He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt, camouflage ski mask, tan shorts, black socks and river-style sandals, according to police.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
