LUMBERPORT, W.Va. -- A prosecutor says no charges will be filed against Lumberport's police chief who shot and wounded a man.
Harrison County prosecutor Joseph P. Shaffer says he found no criminal intent on the part of Police Chief Jeff Beach in the June incident.
Shaffer says 19-year-old Scott Sorge ignored several orders from Beach to put a knife down and threatened the police chief with the weapon.
The prosecutor also says Beach took two cellphone photos of Sorge as he lay on the ground. The chief told investigators he took the photos to protect the scene's integrity.
Shaffer says the photos are troubling but it's a matter for the city to deal with.
WBOY-TV says Shaffer announced the findings Thursday.
