LUMBERPORT, W.Va. -- Lumberport Police Chief Jeff Beach is back on the job after being placed on leave due to a shooting incident.

Media outlets report that City Council voted Monday to reinstate Beach.

Some residents who attended the meeting protested the decision. The council received a petition containing more than 250 signatures of people who want Beach to resign.

Beach declined to comment.

Harrison County sheriff's detective Pat McCarty said 19-year-old Scott Sorge was armed with a knife when Beach shot him three times on June 2. Sorge was wounded in the incident.

Harrison County prosecutor Joseph P. Shaffer has said no charges will be filed against Beach.
