CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man has died of his injuries after been hit by a car while crossing the road Friday night in Kanawha County, according to media reports.

The incident happened in front of Grumpy's Bar in St. Albans around 10 p.m., according to WCHS-TV.

Clay, a bar employee who declined to give his last name, said the victim, who he identified only as Donald, was a regular at the bar.

"He was a local guy that came in every once in a while," the bar employee said "He [lived] here."

The victim was trying to cross the street when he was struck, the bar employee said. "He stepped out in the road and the guy never seen him," the employee said.

WSAZ reported the man, who they identify as 49-year-old Donald Hugle, was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

A Metro 911 dispatcher said she could not provide details on the Friday incident and referred questions to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

A dispatcher with the sheriff's office said he could not answer questions and asked a reporter to call back Monday.
