WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Police say a St. Albans man had marijuana in his pocket when he came to the Putnam County Courthouse on Wednesday to pay a speeding ticket.

While going through security, Howard W. Shingleton Jr., 51, took a small amount of marijuana and a pipe out of his pocket before walking through the metal detector, according to a court marshal and a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.

Shingleton was charged with misdemeanor drug possession and was released on a personal recognizance bond.
