LOGAN, W.Va. -- Police arrested a 25-year-old Logan County man Wednesday night and charged him with murder, after his girlfriend's 2-year-old son died earlier in the day.

State Police troopers arrested Nicholas Daniel Turkale and charged him with murder and child neglect resulting in death.

Turkale and the boy's mother took the toddler to CAMC General Hospital on Monday, saying his injuries were caused when the boy fell from a sink in their Amherstdale home, State Police Sgt. C.E. Stump said Wednesday evening.

The boy died in the hospital earlier Wednesday.

Troopers and Child Protection Services investigators found that the boy's injuries were inconsistent with a fall or accident, Stump said. They believe the child died from a blunt-force injury to the head.

Turkale was being held in Southwestern Regional Jail on Wednesday night, awaiting an arraignment hearing Thursday morning in Logan County Magistrate Court.

Stump said the boy's mother will not face charges. He did not identify the woman or her child, pending family notification.
