ALKOL, W.Va. -- The Humane Society of West Virginia is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of someone who allegedly shot and killed six dogs Friday in Lincoln County.

The dogs were found dead on a mountaintop along Sulphur Springs Road near Alkol, said state Humane Society director Summer Wyatt in a news release.

Rope marks were found on one of the dog's necks and police believe it had been dragged up the mountain, Wyatt said. Her organization will give $2,500 for information leading to the identity, apprehension and conviction of those responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department at 304-824-7990. A dispatcher said detectives have not received any tips yet.
