GALLIPOLIS FERRY, W.Va. -- A Gallipolis Ferry man died early Monday when he lost control of the car he was driving south on W.Va. 2, ran off the roadway, and then veered back across the highway and under the trailer of a northbound tractor trailer, according to the Mason County Sheriff's Department.

The sheriff's department identified the victim as Wendell E. Jordan, 33. An infant passenger in Jordan's car escaped serious injury and was treated for minor injuries at Pleasant Valley Hospital. The driver of the truck, Ronald D. Farley, 48, of Barboursville, was uninjured.

Deputies said the accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. near the railroad crossing on W.Va. 2 at Gallipolis Ferry, on wet pavement.
