CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Federal marshals in Kentucky have arrested an inmate who escaped from Beckley Correctional Center on Monday.

Joseph Cody Genet, 26, is serving a sentence of one to 15 years for a burglary conviction out of Wayne County. He was found missing early Monday during the midnight inmates count. It's unclear how he was able to escape.

Authorities tracked Genet to Ironton, Ohio, on Tuesday as he avoided apprehension by running from a relative's house, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Marshals Service. Marshals received a tip Wednesday that Genet was hiding at his mother's house in Catlettsburg, Ky. He was found there and arrested without further incident, according to the release.

Genet is being held in Boyd County, Ky., awaiting an extradition hearing.
