SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Chestnut Street in South Charleston is reopen after an accident that knocked out electricity to South Charleston High School and dozens of customers.

A Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher said a man driving a Chevrolet pickup truck hit a utility pole at about 7:15 a.m. on Chestnut Street near Kanawha Turnpike. The collision knocked out electricity to the traffic light at the intersection, South Charleston High School, Rock Lake Village and other area homes and businesses.

Richmond Elementary School is dismissing students at 9:45 a.m. because of no power, according to an automated announcement from Kanawha County Schools. 

Chestnut Street was shut down for about half an hour because of the accident. The driver was not hurt.

Power is being restored in the area.
