ALUM BRIDGE, WVa. -- A West Virginia state fire investigator said Tuesday that two children found dead after a Lewis County barn fire had been shot.

State Deputy Fire Marshal Reed Cook told WBOY-TV that's the conclusion of autopsies done by the state Medical Examiner's Office on 5-year-old Kaden Kraus and 3-year-old Kiera Kraus.

The children were found dead in the burned-out barn near Alum Bridge on Nov. 12, along with their mother, Beth, 32.

Cook said he didn't yet have an autopsy report on their mother.

Lewis County sheriff's deputies have refused to comment on the case since Nov. 15. No arrests have been made.

Beth Kraus' husband, Doug, told police he found the bodies after working a night shift.
