LOGAN, W.Va. -- A Logan County man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly shooting at State Police troopers.

Troopers from the Logan detachment went to a home on Whites Addition Road near Logan at about 9:45 a.m. to answer a call about a man intending to commit suicide, said State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous.

When they got there John Watkins, 24, of Logan, allegedly fired a single shot at troopers with a .22-caliber pistol following a brief standoff, Baylous said.

Baylous said Watkins was detained without further incident and charged with wanton endangerment. He was in the Southwestern Regional Jail on Tuesday evening in lieu of $3,500 bond.
