CROSS LANES, W.Va. -- An Indiana man was in jail Wednesday after allegedly making a false 911 call and lying to Kanawha County sheriff's deputies.

Just after midnight, deputies got a call about a crowd of about a dozen people fighting with knives and bottles outside McNally's Pub in Cross Lanes, according to Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Since there were two deputies parked across the street at the time, it took only seconds to respond, Crosier said. Not only did they find no crowd at McNally's, but there were only about six people inside. The bartender told deputies he had kicked a man out of the bar a few minutes earlier for harassing female patrons.

Deputies got a description of the man and located Jay Christopher Hosier, 24, of Anderson, Ind., about a mile away, Crosier said.

Crosier said Hosier initially denied making the 911 call reporting the fight, but his cellphone allegedly showed that he had made the call. Hosier allegedly refused to give any personal information about himself to deputies.

"Emergency calls such as this one place both officer and the public in a potentially dangerous situation with an emergency response," Crosier said. He said other officers were on their way to the scene of the emergency when it was found out that the report was false.

Hosier was charged with public intoxication, obstructing an officer and making a false emergency report.
