CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Charleston couple was charged with three counts of child abuse on Thursday for allegedly exposing their children to methamphetamine by-products.

According to a criminal complaint on file in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Charleston police went to the home of Kevin Michael Hodskins, 34 and Brittany Wright, 22, of Estill Drive, at about 3:30 p.m. to execute a search warrant. When they got there, they noticed a strong chemical odor coming from the garage, and allegedly found chemicals and equipment used for making methamphetamine.

Police also allegedly found exposed syringe needels, exposed razor blades, white powder residue and broken glass inside the house, according to the complaint. Three children between the ages of 1 and 6 years old live at the house, the complaint says.

Police allegedly found little food in the house, but a bottle of Jagermeister liquor in the freezer, the complaint says. The youngest child had yellow drainage coming from its eyes, according to the criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, Hodskins is the father of the youngest and the oldest child, and Wright is the mother of the middle child.

Hodskins and Wright were each charged with three counts of child abuse and one count of  attempting to operate a clandestine drug lab. Magistrate Paris Workman set a $100,000 cash only bond on each.
