MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. -- Authorities in Fayette County are searching for two men who reportedly robbed a pizza deliveryman at gunpoint early Saturday.
The incident was reported at about 3:30 a.m. near Mount Hope, but apparently happened several hours earlier, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
A driver for Domino's Pizza in Beckley said he had gone to the parking lot of the old County Line Bar on W.Va. 16 near the Fayette-Raleigh county border.
When the driver got there, two white males accosted him, according to police. The suspects pointed a handgun at the man and ordered him to lie on the ground, police say. They then stole an undisclosed amount of money from him, physically assaulted him and threw away his cell phone in an attempt to keep him from calling for help, police said. The two men fled from the scene traveling toward Bradley on W.Va. 16.
One suspect is approximately 35 to 40 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 120 pounds. The man reportedly wore a green ball cap, an olive drab military style jacket and similarly colored trousers.
The second man, who also is about 35 to 40 years old, is 5 feet 8 inches tall and 140 pounds, according to police. He wore a dark brown or green jacket with a hood and possibly a pair of jeans. The second man was clean-shaven and appeared to have a red scar on his neck, police say.
After the incident, the driver went back to the Domino's location in Beckley to report the alleged crime, police say. The call initially was reported to the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office. When police arrived at the scene, they determined that the scene actually is in Fayette County and notified the Fayette County 911 Center.
