ELKVIEW, W.Va. -- An Elkview man was arrested after a resident came home and found the man pilfering through his apartment.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies were called to an apartment on Wise Acres Drive around 12:40 p.m. Thursday after Kevin Ray Madison came home and allegedly found Brett Alan Yates, 27, also of Wise Acres Drive, inside his home.

Madison tried to detain Yates but he fled. Deputies found Yates in the parking lot of the apartment complex, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Yates told police he had broken into the apartment and stolen several electronic items earlier and he was "back for a second helping" when Madison returned, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Yates took the items, including a tablet computer, to a residence on Bigley Avenue in Charleston, deputies said. Deputies were able to recover the stolen items.

Yates was being held late Friday in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bail.
