CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Deputies fatally shot a man who fired multiple rounds at them following a domestic disturbance call in Pinch on Saturday.

Kanawha County Sheriff Johnny Rutherford said a woman called her neighbor and said her 45-year-old son was beating her at about 5:30 p.m. The neighbor then called 911 and deputies responded the house in the 5100 block of Quick Road, off County Route 49.

"Upon approaching the house and the front porch, the suspect was observed by deputies exiting with a handgun," Rutherford said. "At that point the deputies took a defensive position."

Rutherford said the suspect then fired multiple shots at deputies, and they returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

No deputy was injured. The name of the suspect has not been released pending family notification.

Rutherford said more information would be released when it's available.
