HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Police in Huntington arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly tried to rob a pharmacy with a box cutter.

Officers were dispatched to reports of an armed robbery at the CVS Pharmacy on Washington Avenue in Huntington at about 6 p.m.

Workers said the suspect, later identified as Brandon Lee Skaggs, of Huntington, entered the store and brandished a box cutter. Workers then called police and locked the store to prevent Skaggs from leaving, according to a news release issued by the Huntington Police Department.

Skaggs was taken into custody after a brief struggle but was later transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital after he complained of a drug overdose.

Police believe Skaggs took large amounts of drugs before the robbery.

Skaggs will be arrested and charged with armed robbery after he's released from the hospital, police said.
