Mason County man gets 18 months for dumping sewage

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A Mason County man will spend a year and a half in prison for dumping raw sewage on land and in waterways that feed the Ohio River.

Sixty-one-year-old Frank Zuspan pleaded guilty last fall to dumping a pollutant into waters without a permit. He was sentenced Tuesday in Huntington by U.S. District Judge Robert Chambers.

U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin says that Zuspan admitted taking a 2,400-gallon truck onto a property in Mason County on multiple occasions between November 2010 and February 2011, and dumping the waste there.

He also admitted dumping sewage into a lake and stream watershed that's connected to the Ohio River.

Goodwin says it's dangerous and illegal to pollute your neighbor's water supply, and people should know better.
