RAND, W.Va. -- A Rand man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly using a gun to rob a convenience store several hours before.

Gerald Martin Maxwell Jr., 26, allegedly walked into the 7-Eleven and waited until other customers left. He then pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded the money from the cash register drawer, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Deputies J.L. Lester and M.A. Dolin were called to the store. Deputies were taking fingerprints and watching surveillance film when Dolin saw Maxwell in the store's parking lot, according to the release. Maxwell surrendered and allegedly told deputies, "I saw a couple of you looking for me and you can't hide from the boys in blue."

Maxwell was charged with armed robbery and was taken to South Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bail. He remained there Wednesday evening.
