CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man who is currently serving time in a Tennessee prison was indicted Friday in the 1999 murder of a woman who was found strangled to death and nude on the side of U.S. 119, just outside of Walton.
After investigators found a match in a national DNA database, Daniel Turner was charged with murder in the death of Terry Clark, 41.
Turner told detectives that Clark and two other people tried to rob him of drugs. He said that "somehow the shoestring got around her throat," and that he carried her body to the side of U.S. 119 after he realized he killed her, according to an interrogation transcript.
In all, a Kanawha County grand jury indicted 64 defendants Friday. An indictment is not a finding of fact, merely an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
