SPENCER, W.Va. -- A Roane County woman who is facing 36 counts of animal cruelty charges turned herself in Saturday.

Tory Shadowwolf Morgan, 41, was charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty last week after authorities found 40 dead or emaciated horses on her farm. A warrant was issued for Morgan's arrest and she turned herself in to Roane County Sheriff's Deputies at about 2 p.m. Saturday.

She was arraigned in Roane County Magistrate Court and is being held in Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $90,000 bail.

The charges stem from an investigation on her farm near Reedy on Jan. 17. Roane County law enforcement officials said they obtained a warrant to search the property after they received complaints of sick and dead horses at the farm.

Officials found the carcasses of 14 horses and learned that six other horses had died earlier, according to Roane County Prosecuting Attorney Josh Downey. Two additional horses could not be accounted for, Downey said. Another 20 horses were found severely malnourished and taken to a nearby farm for quarantine and feeding.
