Charleston police officers cordoned off the BB&T Bank parking lot at the Patrick Street Plaza after a robbery there Friday morning. Police said a suspect handed a teller a handwritten note demanding money before fleeing.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police continued to look for a man they said robbed a bank on Charleston's West Side Friday morning.
The BB&T Bank branch at the Patrick Street Plaza was robbed shortly after 10 a.m. by a man who handed a teller a handwritten note, said Charleston Police Department Lt. Steve Cooper.
The man told tellers he had a gun and was willing to use it, but never produced any firearms, Cooper said. No one was injured and the suspect fled before police arrived. Officers were tabulating how much money the suspect got away with Friday afternoon.
Detectives were searching along the bank of the Kanawha River, where they believe the suspect had fled. They had interviewed several customers inside the Patrick Street bank and talked to nearby businesses.
Cooper said every Charleston detective was working on the case along with undercover officers and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents.
The bank's security cameras captured a detailed image of the suspect that Cooper hopes would soon lead to an arrest.
"I'm optimistic because we got images to help identify the person and we have evidence inside that we hope will be useful," he said.
The initial description of the suspected robber was a black male in a black toboggan and blue hooded sweatshirt, about 6-feet 2-inches tall.
Cooper said bank personnel followed procedures correctly by pressing a panic alarm during the robbery.
