Wheeling officer pleads no contest to harassment

WHEELING, W.Va. -- A Wheeling police officer accused of sexual misconduct has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor harassment charges.

Special prosecutor David F. Cross tells media outlets that Matthew Kotson received a one-year sentence that was suspended. Kotson will serve one year of probation.

Kotson also agreed to resign from the police department and to drop a wrongful termination claim against the city. He's been on unpaid leave since Dec. 1, 2011.

In exchange for the plea, two sexual assault charges were dismissed.

Kotson was indicted in January 2012 after four women accused him of misconduct. He was acquitted of two sexual abuse charges.
