BIG CHIMNEY, W.Va. -- A 20-year-old South Charleston man hid from authorities under a pile of dirty laundry after allegedly escaping from home confinement Tuesday, police said.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Cpl. B.D. Humphreys said deputies, acting on a tip, found Robert Wayne Cole hiding inside a trailer on Slack's Trailer Park near Big Chimney.

Sometime on Feb. 6, Humphreys said, Cole left his home in South Charleston, where he was sentenced to home confinement for violating probation. Cole was convicted of breaking and entering and was serving two consecutive sentences of one to 10 years before reaching probation.

Deputies charged Cole with violating home confinement, a felony, and he was being held Wednesday in South Central Regional Jail. Humphreys said deputies would seek an additional charge of escape from an alternative sentencing program.
