POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- Police arrested a Mason County substitute teacher Thursday and said he sexually abused one of his students.

James Paul Hadinger, 43, of Gallipolis Ferry, was charged with two counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian, Mason Sheriff's Deputy R.D. Spencer said.

Hadinger became involved with a female student while substituting at Hannan Junior/Senior High School in Ashton this month, according to a criminal complaint filed in Mason County Magistrate Court.

The girl told deputies Hadinger picked her up at a grocery store last week and took her to a high school basketball game. They left the game early and Hadinger allegedly drove to an abandoned house on Ball Chapel Road in Ashton.

Hadinger then kissed and sexually abused the girl there, according to the criminal complaint.

Hadinger signed a written confession, according to the complaint. He was being held Friday in the Western Regional Jail in lieu of a $200,000 bail.
