CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man died in a fire early Sunday morning in Boone County, according to the chief deputy of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Rocky Steele, 18, who lived at the trailer with his dad and girlfriend on W.Va. 3 in Whitesville, died in the fire that was reported to 911 dispatchers at about 6 a.m., said Chief Deputy Chad Barker.

Steele's dad and his girlfriend made it out of the home unharmed, he said.

The fire seems to be accidental, according to Barker, who noted the initial investigation shows someone smoking in bed might have been the cause.

The state Fire Marshal is continuing to investigate, Barker said.
